REPORT ON SENSITIZATION AND AWARENESS, INTERGENERATIONAL BONDING ACTIVITIES AND HEALTH & MEDICAL CAMP UNDER ATAL VAYO ABHYUDAYA YOJANA IN NAMCHI DISTRICT


The Sensitization and Awareness programme for Senior Citizens of Namch District was successfully organised today on 12/03/2026 at Town Hall Namchi under the Atal Vayo Abhyudaya Yojana (AVAY), with the objective of promoting active ageing, health awareness and dissemination of information on various governmen welfare schemes for senior citizen.
The Programme was graced by Mr. Ganesh Rai, Counsellor, NMC as Chie Guest and Shri S D Kalikotey, SDM Ravangla as the Special Guest. Their presence added significance to the event and encouraged active participation among senio citizen.


The Mega Health Camp for Senior Citizen was organised on 09/03/2026 at the Namthang Block under the Atal Vayo Abhudaya Yojana. The programme was conducted by the Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Departmen with primary objective of promoting the health and well-being of senior citizen by providing accessible healthcare services at their door step and creating awarenes: regarding various welfare schemes and support systems available under the Department.


Resource persons from various departments delivered informative session: during the programme. Dietician from the Health Department sensitized the senio citizens on the importance of balance nutrition and healthy dietary practices in old age


Mr. Shyam S. Pradhan, Social Welfare Officer highlighted various departmenta schemes for the senior citizen and elaborated on the objectives of Atal Vayo Abhyudaya Yojana and shared useful tips for maintaining good health, safety and security of senior citizen and also briefed the beneficiaries in detail about the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP), Old Age Pension Schemes and other welfare initiative under state and central government programmes. An interactive session was conducted to address quarries and provide counselling regarding eligibility criteria, documentation requirements and procedural formalities for availing benefits. Senior Citizens were specially sensitised about the importance of maintaining essential documents such as Aadhaar Card, Ration Card, Voter ID and other relevant records necessary for various schemes.


The event successfully promoted inter-generational harmony, social inclusion and community bonding by walkathon along with the Senior Citizen and their Gran Children or the Children of the Child Care Institute on 07/03/2026 at Melli Block under the banner on Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana by the Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department.
The Chief Guest Shri Ganesh Rai, expressed her gratuity to the organizing department for conducting such a meaningful and much needed programme. H encouraged the senior citizens to lead a healthy life style, consume nutritious food and make effective use of government welfare scheme.

Addressing the gathering. Shri S D Kalikotey, SCS, SDM, highlighted the welfare schemes available for senior citizen and explained the provisions of the Maintenance and welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 in detail. He urged senior citizens to remain active, informed and healthy.
The programme also featured recreational activities. The event concluded on a positive note with active participation and appreciation from the beneficiaries. Overall the programme was a great success and effectively met its objectives of awareness generation, health promotion and active ageing under Atal Vayo Abhyudaya Yojana.
