1. Programme Details

  • Name of Programme: 02-Day Training of Functionaries of Senior Citizen Home
  • Date: 11–12 February 2026
  • Venue: Laisadeep
  • Target Group: Caregivers and staff of Senior Citizen Homes

2. Objectives of the Training

  • To enhance the capacity of functionaries working in senior citizen homes
  • To promote quality care and standard management practices
  • To improve knowledge on health care, hygiene and psychosocial support of elderly persons
  • To strengthen documentation, safety and institutional management systems

3. Programme Implementation

The two-day training programme was organized to equip participants with practical knowledge and skills required for effective functioning of senior citizen homes. Resource persons conducted sessions through lectures, discussions, and participatory activities to ensure better understanding and learning among the trainees.

4. Major Topics Covered

  • Concept and importance of institutional care for older persons
  • Roles and responsibilities of caregivers and home management staff
  • Health care, nutrition, hygiene and medication support
  • Communication skills and emotional care for senior citizens
  • Standardization and quality assurance in service delivery
  • Documentation, reporting and record maintenance
  • Safety measures, emergency preparedness and referral services
  • Recreational activities and promotion of active ageing

5. Participation

The programme was attended by caregivers from various senior citizen homes and community-based organizations of East Khasi Hills district and nearby areas. Participants actively engaged in group discussions and shared field experiences.

6. Outcome of the Training

  • Improved understanding of elderly care standards and institutional management
  • Strengthened skills in caregiving, communication and documentation
  • Increased awareness on safety and holistic well-being of senior citizens
  • Enhanced motivation among participants to deliver quality services

7. Conclusion

The training programme was successful in achieving its objectives and contributed towards strengthening the capacity of senior citizen home functionaries. Such initiatives play an important role in improving the quality of life, dignity and care of elderly persons residing in institutional settings.
