  • Health Camp for Senior Citizens

Introduction

In observance of the International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) 2025, the Regional Resource and Training Centre (RRTC), Mission Foundation Movement (MFM), organized a Health Camp for Senior Citizens on 1st October 2025 at Durtlang Leitan, Aizawl, Mizoram. The programme was organized with the objective of promoting healthy ageing and ensuring that older persons receive essential health care services and awareness on age-related health issues.

Objectives

The health camp was conducted with the following objectives:

  • To provide basic health screening and medical consultation for senior citizens.
  • To create awareness on preventive healthcare and healthy lifestyles.
  • To facilitate early detection and management of common age-related diseases.
  • To encourage regular health check-ups and healthy ageing practices.

Participants

Senior citizens from different localities of Aizawl and nearby areas participated in the health camp. Representatives from senior citizens’ associations, volunteers, healthcare professionals, and staff of Mission Foundation Movement also attended the programme.

Activities Conducted

The camp commenced with a brief inaugural session highlighting the significance of the International Day of Older Persons and the importance of maintaining good health in old age.

A team of doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals conducted various health screening services, including:

  • General medical examination and consultation.
  • Blood pressure and blood sugar testing.
  • Body weight and Body Mass Index (BMI) assessment.
  • Eye and vision screening.
  • Counselling on nutrition, physical activity, and healthy lifestyle practices.
  • Health education on common age-related conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, and cardiovascular diseases.

Participants received individual consultations and were advised on appropriate treatment and follow-up care whenever necessary. Referral services were also provided for those requiring further medical attention.

Outcome

The health camp benefitted senior citizens by providing access to basic healthcare services and increasing awareness regarding preventive health measures. Participants appreciated the opportunity to undergo health screening and receive professional medical advice. The programme contributed to promoting healthy and active ageing and enhanced awareness regarding the importance of regular health check-ups.

Conclusion

The Health Camp for Senior Citizens organized by the Regional Resource and Training Centre (RRTC), Mission Foundation Movement (MFM), in celebration of the International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) 2025 was successfully conducted. The programme served as a meaningful initiative to promote the health and well-being of older persons and reinforced the commitment of RRTC, MFM towards ensuring dignity, care, and quality of life for senior citizens.
