Introduction

A One Day Programme on Standardization of Senior Care Homes and Management was successfully conducted on 23rd February 2026 at Jowai, West Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya. The programme was organized with the objective of promoting quality standards and improving management systems in senior care homes. The initiative focused on strengthening institutional care services and ensuring dignified living conditions for senior citizens.

Objectives of the Programme

  • To create awareness on minimum standards for senior care homes
  • To improve management and administrative practices
  • To enhance caregiving skills of staff and volunteers
  • To promote proper documentation and record keeping
  • To emphasize health, hygiene, and safety of senior citizens

Proceedings of the Programme

The programme commenced with a welcome address highlighting the importance of standardization in senior care homes. The introductory session emphasized the growing need for structured care systems due to the increasing elderly population. Participants were informed about the importance of adopting uniform operational guidelines to ensure quality services.

The technical sessions covered various aspects of senior care home management. Discussions were held on infrastructure requirements, sanitation, nutrition, and healthcare support for residents. Resource persons also explained the importance of maintaining records such as admission registers, medical records, and daily activity logs.

Special emphasis was given to psychosocial care and emotional well-being of senior citizens. Participants were encouraged to conduct recreational activities, counselling sessions, and community interaction programmes to reduce loneliness and isolation among elderly residents.

Safety and security measures in senior care homes were also discussed, including emergency preparedness, fall prevention, and regular health monitoring. The importance of trained caregivers and capacity building programmes for staff members was highlighted during the session.
