The 02-Day Training of Functionaries of Senior Citizen Home was successfully conducted at YMA Hall, Serchhip, Mizoram on 27–28 February 2026. The programme was organized with the objective of strengthening the knowledge, skills, and capacities of staff and caregivers working in senior citizen homes to ensure quality care and effective management of elderly services.
Day 1: Inaugural Session and Technical Sessions
The training programme commenced with an inaugural session, where the organizers welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of professional caregiving and proper management practices in senior citizen homes. The resource persons emphasized the growing needs of the elderly population and the responsibility of institutions to provide safe, dignified, and compassionate care.
Technical sessions on the first day focused on:
- Concept and importance of institutional care for older persons
- Roles and responsibilities of functionaries in senior citizen homes
- Basic health care, hygiene, nutrition, and medication management
- Communication skills and psychosocial support for the elderly
Interactive discussions and experience-sharing enabled participants to understand practical challenges faced in caregiving and management.
Day 2: Practical Learning and Management Aspects
The second day of the training emphasized practical approaches and administrative aspects of running senior citizen homes effectively. Sessions covered:
- Standardization and quality assurance in elderly care services
- Record keeping, documentation, and reporting systems
- Safety, emergency preparedness, and referral linkages
- Recreational activities, mental health promotion, and active ageing initiatives
Group activities and case study discussions were conducted to enhance learning and teamwork among participants. The training concluded with a feedback session where participants shared their views and appreciated the usefulness of the programme.
Participation
The training was attended by functionaries, caregivers, and representatives from various senior citizen homes and community-based organizations in and around Serchhip district. The active participation and enthusiasm of the trainees contributed to the overall success of the programme.
