  • Durtlang Leitan, Aizawl, Mizoram, Aizawl, Mizoram - 796014

Date : 7th October, 2025

The International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) 2025, supported by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, was observed with great enthusiasm by the Mission Foundation Movement at Aizawl. The programme aimed to celebrate the contributions of senior citizens while raising awareness about their rights, well-being, and active participation in society.

The event was inaugurated by the Hon’ble PWD Minister, Vanlalhlana, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized the importance of respecting and supporting the elderly, and highlighted the role of government and civil society in ensuring their welfare and dignity.

One of the key highlights of the programme was an awareness session on digital literacy, which focused on equipping senior citizens with essential digital skills. The session aimed to help elders navigate modern technology, access online services, and stay connected with family and society. Another important segment of the programme was an informative talk on the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens (MWPSC) Act, 2007, which educated participants about their legal rights, protections, and the mechanisms available for their support and security.

The celebration also featured a pledge ceremony, where participants reaffirmed their commitment to respecting and caring for the elderly. Senior citizens were honored in recognition of their lifelong contributions to society, creating a sense of appreciation and inclusion. The event was further enriched by cultural performances, which added vibrancy and encouraged active participation among the attendees.

A total of 120 senior citizens participated in the programme, making it a meaningful and impactful event. Overall, the observance of IDOP 2025 successfully promoted awareness, inclusivity, and respect for older persons, while reinforcing the importance of creating an age-friendly society.
