    Arunachal Pradesh | 23-10-2025 10:00 AM
  • Senki Park, Itanagar, Papum Pare, Arunachal Pradesh - 791111

Date : 23rd October, 2025

A one-day workshop on elderly issues was successfully organized at Itanagar by the Regional Resource Training Centre (RRTC) for Senior Citizens, Mission Foundation Movement. The programme was designed to address the multifaceted challenges faced by senior citizens and to promote a supportive and inclusive environment for the ageing population.

Objectives

The primary objectives of the workshop were to create a platform for discussing the social, psychological, and health-related challenges encountered by elderly persons. The programme also aimed to promote community-based care systems that encourage family and societal involvement in elderly welfare. Additionally, emphasis was placed on strengthening intergenerational bonding, fostering mutual respect and understanding between younger and older generations. Another key objective was to encourage active ageing and enhance mental well-being among senior citizens through awareness, participation, and engagement in meaningful activities.

Participants

The workshop witnessed the participation of around 30 individuals, including senior citizens, organizational staff, volunteers, and representatives from various non-governmental organizations. The diverse composition of participants contributed to a rich exchange of ideas, experiences, and perspectives on elderly care and support systems.

Outcomes

The workshop resulted in several positive outcomes. There was a noticeable improvement in awareness regarding the rights of senior citizens and the various welfare provisions available for them. Participants, especially youth and volunteers, demonstrated a strengthened commitment to supporting the elderly in their communities. The programme also facilitated the identification of potential areas for collaboration between NGOs and government departments, paving the way for more coordinated and effective service delivery. Furthermore, the elderly participants were encouraged to remain socially active, maintain a positive outlook, and actively engage in community life, thereby improving their overall well-being.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the workshop proved to be an effective initiative in raising awareness about issues concerning senior citizens. It fostered mutual understanding and respect between generations and highlighted the collective responsibility of society to care for and support the elderly. The programme reinforced the importance of continued efforts toward building an age-friendly community where senior citizens are valued, respected, and empowered.
