Overview of the Programme
A two-day training programme for functionaries of senior citizen homes was organized at Tinsukia, Assam on 9–10 February 2026 with the objective of enhancing the professional capacity of caregivers and staff working in elderly care institutions. The programme aimed to strengthen institutional care practices and promote the welfare, dignity and safety of senior citizens residing in care homes.
Conduct of the Training
The programme was conducted through a series of interactive and participatory sessions led by experienced resource persons. The training focused on equipping participants with practical knowledge and management skills necessary for effective functioning of senior citizen homes.
Topics discussed during the sessions included elderly health care, hygiene and sanitation, nutrition management, emotional and psychosocial support, communication skills and caregiving responsibilities. Participants were also sensitized on institutional management practices such as maintenance of records, reporting systems, safety protocols and emergency preparedness.
Practical exercises, group discussions and experience-sharing sessions were organized to encourage active learning and exchange of ideas among participants. Special emphasis was placed on creating a supportive and respectful environment for senior citizens through compassionate caregiving practices.
Participation
The training programme witnessed participation from caregivers, staff members and representatives of senior citizen homes and voluntary organizations from Tinsukia district and nearby areas. Participants actively engaged in discussions and demonstrated keen interest throughout the programme.
Achievements and Outcomes
The programme successfully enhanced participants’ understanding of elderly care and institutional management. Participants gained better knowledge on providing holistic care, maintaining proper documentation and ensuring safety and well-being of senior citizens. Suggestions and Follow-up
Participants suggested that such training programmes should be conducted periodically to update knowledge and strengthen caregiving skills. They also emphasized the need for continuous awareness and networking among institutions working for elderly welfare.

The training programme concluded successfully with positive feedback from participants. The initiative contributed significantly towards strengthening the capacity of functionaries involved in elderly care services and promoting better standards of care for senior citizens in institutional settings.
