  • 02 Day Training of Functionaries of Senior Citizen Home

Introduction

A two-day training programme for functionaries of senior citizen homes was organized at Roing, Dibang Valley, Arunachal Pradesh on 23–24 February 2026. The training was conducted with the aim of strengthening the capacities of caregivers and staff engaged in institutional care of elderly persons. The programme emphasized the importance of providing dignified, safe and holistic care to senior citizens residing in care homes

.

Training Proceedings

During the training, various thematic sessions were conducted by resource persons focusing on both theoretical knowledge and practical aspects of elderly care. Participants were oriented on the changing needs of the ageing population and the role of trained personnel in improving service delivery within senior citizen homes.

Key areas covered during the programme included basic health care, hygiene, nutrition, emotional support, communication skills, and management of daily activities of residents. Sessions were also conducted on institutional management practices such as maintenance of records, reporting procedures, safety measures, and coordination with health and social service agencies.

Interactive methods including group discussions, case studies and experience sharing were used to enhance understanding and encourage participation. The training also highlighted the importance of organizing recreational activities and promoting active and healthy ageing among senior citizens.

Participation

The programme was attended by caregivers, functionaries and representatives of voluntary organizations and senior citizen homes from Dibang Valley district and surrounding areas. Participants showed keen interest and actively contributed to discussions and practical sessions.

Outcome of the Programme

The training enhanced the knowledge and skills of participants in providing quality care and managing senior citizen homes more effectively. It also improved awareness regarding safety, documentation and psychosocial support systems required for elderly well-being. The programme helped build confidence and motivation among functionaries to implement better caregiving practices in their respective institutions.

Recommendations

  • Regular capacity-building programmes should be conducted for caregivers and staff
  • Standard operating procedures may be strengthened for effective management of homes
  • Increased focus should be given to health monitoring and mental well-being of residents
  • Community participation and inter-agency linkages should be encouraged

Conclusion

The two-day training programme proved to be meaningful and beneficial for the participants. Such initiatives contribute significantly towards improving the quality of institutional care and ensuring dignity, security and overall well-being of senior citizens.
